After watchOS 7.3 with the new Unity watch face , it’s now time to look ahead to the next batch of features and improvements for the Apple Watch. In watchOS 7.4 beta, developers and public beta testers can already start testing them. The update will be released to everyone in March, but it is up to the developers first.
watchOS 7.4 Public Beta 3
Apple has released the third public beta of watchOS 7.4 with build number 18T5169f. Like the first two betas, this one offers the ability to unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch . The function is specially designed for people who wear a mouth mask. As long as your Apple Watch is unlocked on your wrist, your iPhone will also unlock immediately. If you don’t think this is safe, you can turn it off.
Improvements in watchOS 7.4
In combination with iOS 14.5, the Apple Watch with watchOS 7.4 can unlock your iPhone as soon as you wear a mouth mask. This only works on iPhones with Face ID . The iPhone recognizes the face mask and turns on the Apple Watch to unlock the iPhone . Using Apple Pay is not possible with this.
Download watchOS 7.4 beta
The beta of watchOS 7.4 is available to developers and public testers with the correct beta profile. If you have already installed a previous beta of watchOS, you will see the update appear automatically. We expect the beta to be available to public testers soon.
Note: these betas are only intended for developers and public testers are not suitable for use on devices that you need on a daily basis.
About watchOS 7.4
Because this is already the fourth update, we expect that it will mainly contain small tweaks. Apple will also fix some bugs and problems from previous versions, but we do not expect really big new functions.

About testing betas
You can often run into problems when testing betas. First of all, not all functions are usually immediately available, but are added and expanded during the test period. You can also suffer from crashes or some apps may not work properly yet. So keep this in mind if you decide to test a watchOS update. It is therefore not recommended to install a beta on a device that you use every day, because there can still be many problems in the beta. Moreover, you cannot downgrade with watchOS.
